Leslie Sanchez

Leslie Sanchez is a CEO, political consultant, and writer. She advised the George W. Bush campaign in the 2000 Election and worked in the Bush administration as Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans. She founded and heads of a consulting firm, Impacto Group, LLC. She is also a writer of two books: Los Republicanos: Why Republicans and Hispanics Need Each Other and You’ve Come a Long Way, Maybe: Michelle, Sarah, Hillary and the Shaping of the New American Woman. She has appeared as political commentator on FOX, CNN, MSNBC, Univison, and Telumundo.

Ruben Navarrette

Ruben Navarrette is a  Central Valley native and nationally-syndicated columnist with the Washington Post Writers Group, CNN, and the Daily Beast . Navarrette has even been ranked as high the 16th most read columnist in the nation and the most read Latino columnist according to Media Matters for America. In his columns he challenges both Democrats and Republicans with equal fervor.  His columns often provoke strong reactions that result in 800,000 page views, 10,000 comments, and dozens email responses.

About Opportunity in Action 2015

Opportunity in Action 2015 is the follow-up to last year’s Inaugural Summit, funded by the Associated Students of the University of California, Merced and hosted by the College Republicans at UC Merced. This summit is designed to promote valuable insight into the politics and the groups that take part in the political process, to build new relationships between these groups, and continue to foster an atmosphere of collaboration and action. This year’s summit will also delve into the subject of women in leadership and politics in the United States with Ruben Navarrette and Leslie Sanchez sharing ideas, discussing problems, and promoting solutions to the issues affecting women in today’s world.
